Bespoke Temple Wallpaper reproduction

The Temple

Personalised hybrid wallpaper reproduction

Case study

The client requested a full reproduction of the drawing room wallpaper, aiming to restore the original aesthetic while introducing a personalised element. The brief included accurately recreating the historic pattern, colour palette, and surface qualities of the original design, using both traditional and contemporary printing methods. Additionally, our client asked for a bespoke adaptation of the motif, incorporating their two poodle dogs into the damask structure as part of the decorative narrative. The reproduction was expected to maintain the integrity of the original layout while seamlessly integrating this personalised detail.

Process

Bespoke reproduction & design

The design mapping and colour‑matching process was carried out using photographic documentation and surviving samples, allowing accurate reconstruction of the original layout, repeat structure, and colour palette.

Hybrid process of printing

The reproduction was achieved through a combined digital and hand screen‑printed process to accurately emulate the way the wallpaper was manufactured in the 1970s. The characteristic mottled ground was recreated digitally, allowing precise control over texture and tonal variation, while the top layer was hand screen printed to retain the depth, surface quality, and craftsmanship of the original production method. This hybrid approach ensured that the final result matched both the visual effect and the material presence of the historic paper.

Reinstatement & Personalisation

As part of the reproduction work, a personalised variation of the traditional damask design was developed for the owner, incorporating two stylised poodles positioned symmetrically to “guard” the central pomegranate motif.

This bespoke addition was integrated into the mapped pattern, ensuring that the new elements aligned harmoniously with the historic damask structure while maintaining the rhythm, balance, and visual integrity of the original design.
